AT earthbath® GIVING BACK STARTS AT HOME … BUT TRAVELS FAR AND WIDE
Through earthbath’s Rescue & Service Program as well as its relationship with Greater Good Charities, it has donated more than $600,000 in pet products across the country in 2022 to support non-profit organizations that help animals in need, or animals who help people.
San Francisco, CA - (March 2023) At earthbath® giving back starts at home with non-profit rescues and animal shelters and spreads across the United States and to the far reaches of Uganda, East Africa, where the investment in fair trade Nilotica shea butter supports an all women’s group of Ugandan farmers.
“From the beginning, we’ve been focused on a quadruple bottom line,” said Paul Armstrong, President and CEO for earthbath, a trusted and recommended brand by top veterinarians, groomers and other pet professionals for over 25 years. “That means that people, pets and planet are just as important to us as profits.”
While the company has always donated a portion of its products to help animals in need, they created a formal Rescue & Service Program in 2022, which non-profit organizations can apply to and access much needed supplies to continue the good work that they do.
Internationally, earthbath purchases its shea butter from The Northern Uganda Shea Processors Association (NUSPA), which has helped women farmers organize themselves into a cooperative to produce and sell this valuable resource at fair trade prices. Fair trade helps to ensure these women receive a fair price for the shea butter, which in turn supplements their family incomes in this impoverished region so they can afford to pay for clothing, children's school fees, taxes, and other basic necessities.
While the company’s products are Made in USA, certain ingredients such as shea butter can only be purchased internationally at their source.
“Nilotica shea butter is an incredible ingredient which can only be purchased in East Africa,” said Armstrong, who actually travelled to the cooperative to meet the Ugandan women who source the shea butter used in products such as earthbath’s Shed Control Shampoo and Treatment Balm. “It was really important for us to buy fair trade. It’s incredibly rewarding to see what positive impact we can have on women and families by sourcing this ingredient in a responsible way.”
