Earthbath - Totally Natural Pet Care

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why shouldn't I use the Spritzes on my cat?

A:
We want you to get what you pay for. Although these products are totally natural and safe, we discovered in our product development that cats will immediately lick off all the spritz, negating its effect.

Q: Is Earthbath safe to use on my other pets - like ferrets, rabbits, horses, etc.

A: Absolutely. The most important criterion for pet shampoo is that it be mild and pH-balanced. All of our products are formulated with the mildest ingredients available and are pH-balanced for safety and mildness for animals' sensitive skin.

Q: Why not wash my pet with soap?

A: Simply: Please don't. Soap can dry a pet's skin and leave residue in the fur, causing itching, dandruff and shedding. Additionally, topical flea preparations wash off with soap, while non-soap cleansing formulae will not wash them off. *

* This may not be true of all soap-free shampoos. If you are in question, please contact the specific manufacturer for guidance.

Q: What is the difference between soap and detergent?

A: Both clean well, but see the question above. All cleansing ingredients can be classified as detergents and soap is one of them. The best explanation is by analogy: cars and airplanes are both means of transportation, but each functions differently. Soap and vegetable-based cleansers are both detergents, but have different chemical compositions and health properties.

Q: Why shouldn't I use Orange Peel Oil shampoo to wash my cat?

A: Unfortunately, a very small percentage of cats are allergic to orange peel oil, the natural extract of orange rinds. Although this allergy is rare, it can be acute and is best not risked... Dogs do not share this risk and are generally safe to wash with orange peel oil. We make a Cat Shampoo with luxurious conditioners, but if your cat has any sort of skin condition, all of our other shampoos are safe and gentle for use on cats.

Q: Which of your shampoos can I use to wash my cat?

A: Any but the Orange Peel Oil (see question above). All are mild and pH-balanced for sensitive skin.

Q: Why not use baby shampoo on my pet?

A: Pets' skin is more sensitive, and human shampoo is not as gentle as pet shampoo. A pet is covered with fur, while a human is not... usually. Quality pet shampoos are pH-balanced to be milder to compensate for this difference.

Q: I love how Earthbath® smells... can I use it myself?

A: Earthbath® shampoos are all human-grade, but are pH-balanced for pets' more sensitive skin. Our president uses it every day... seriously... try it, you may like it.

Q: Why a shampoo bar vs. a liquid?

A: Shampoo bars offer convenience, value, and help reduce the "squirm factor" involved in grooming. They are soap-free, easy-to-use vegetable-based glycerin bars which last a long time. Imagine having one hand on your pet with the other on the shampoo bar - wet, lather (even the hard-to-get spots), wait a few minutes, and then rinse. Bars last a long time too.

Q: What makes shampoo hypoallergenic?

A: Hypoallergenic refers to a product's mildness and property of being unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. A true hypoallergenic shampoo should be pH-balanced very close to a value of 7 (water is pH neutral and has a value of 7.0) and should contain no color or fragrance. Color and fragrance are frequently the culprits of allergic reactions.

Q: Help me with natural household solutions to a flea problem.

A: Eucalyptus and Peppermint oils are known to repel fleas. One can purchase these oils at a good natural foods store and put a few drops in bedding, blankets or wherever your pet sleeps or lies for any period of time. Planting peppermint in your garden and window boxes will help. Also, walking a dog in a Eucalyptus grove helps rid fleas, and while you're there, pick up some leaves and acorns. You can place the leaves or acorns under the dogs bedding to add a nice fragrance and help solve the flea problem. You can also make a collar by drilling holes through the acorns and stringing them together.

Q: My dog itches. Should I use Oatmeal & Aloe or Tea Tree & Aloe?

A: Each addresses a different cause of itching. If your pet has hot spots, or sensitive lesions, the Tea Tree & Aloe will help reduce inflammation because tea tree is recognized to have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. If your pet has dry skin, Oatmeal & Aloe will help re-moisturize and condition the skin. Both shampoos contain aloe vera, an effective, complimentary emollient.

Q: Do I need to dilute Earthbath before using it?

A: No. Earthbath is very mild and may be used full strength or diluted if desired.
